Welcome to a magical and authentic place in the heart of Périgord Noir
Le Donjon, Manoir et Jardin de la Salle consists of a Tour-maitre (12ᵉ century), a magnificent small Manoir (15ᵉ century) and a romantic garden adorned with beautiful beds, trees and shrubs. This exceptional architectural ensemble, still inhabited since the Middle Ages, lies at the heart of the listed village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère.
Since 2021, the site has been open to the public. Rich furnishings and a number of important collections (music, herbalism, fantastic animals from the Middle Ages) bear witness to its past inhabitants.
The magnificent frameworks supporting the imposing lauze roof, and the tower’s parapet walk , are fully accessible and offer a beautiful panoramic view of the village. The site’s garden is home to a remarkable multi-century giant cedar, one of the jewels of the visit.

Donjon, Manoir and Jardin de la Salle, a visit to a listed historic site in a charming village
In the 14th century, this elegant and comfortable, it fully embraces its noble origins. defensive role: its A square , 2-storey keep A defense system to make attackers swoon: machicolations, crenellations, archways– the whole range of medieval military art can be found in the master tower. The priory adjoining the Manoir has been listed since 1941, and in 1957, the façade and the massive, sumptuous lauze roofs were protected by the Monuments Historiques.

Keys to preparing your visit
Le Donjon, Manoir et Jardin de la Salle can be visited daily from April to September, from 10am to 7pm, and until the end of the All Saints’ Day vacations, from 10am to 6pm. Individual and group rates are available, with information available in each room and in the garden. Free parking is available nearby, and dogs are welcome! Take the opportunity to visit Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, one of France’s most beautiful villages.

From Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, you’re ideally placed to visit La Roque-Saint-Christophe (a cliff sheltering a troglodytic fortress, 55,000 years of human occupation) and the Maison Forte de Reignac (the only castle-cliff, mysterious and bewitching …). Opt for twin tickets to save money and enjoy three complementary sites. Choose the days that suit you best, so you can visit at your own pace during the vacations!
Un endroit vraiment splendide dans un petit village vraiment charmant.
Vous pourrez déambuler dans le “château tour” et le visiter de la cave au grenier (véridique).
Puis visiter le manoir attenant comprenant de nombreuses pièces meublés, cuisine, salon, salle de réception, chambres….vous emprunterez couloirs et escaliers jusque sous les combles où une étonnante exposition vous attend.
Deux lieux chargés d’émotions. Son jardin vous permettra de contempler l’architecture des bâtiments.
Édifices historiques et parc à visiter. La décoration intérieure des bâtiments demanderait a être plus sobre afin de mettre en valeur les pierres. Quelques belles pièces du mobilier se suffiraient à elles-mêmes.
La charpente et le toit de lauze sont impressionnants et la vue y est magnifique. Courage et gravissez les quelques marches…
Lieu très sympa où l’on déambule librement. Un donjon très bien restauré du 15eme siècle, plein de « trésors » présentés comme dans un cabinet de curiosités. Un ensemble qui possède une cohérence malgré tout sans doute en raison de l’amour des objets et des reconstitutions qui préside à ces installations, par le propriétaire des lieux.
Nous avons visiter ce lieu, il y a quelque jour. Et nous n’en somme pas du tout déçu ! Magnifique donjon et manoir ! C’était très très beau ! La visite et à faire à tout pris ! Merci aussi de nous avoir montrer une des rares clés pour l’entrée du manoir ! Magnifique 😊
